Improv-based therapy is proven to increase confidence, reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. Our program elevates hope, increases energy, builds resiliency, supports the development of new coping behaviors, and improves the overall quality of life. These tools affect every aspect of a person and their support systems life. Based on our data and results, we realize that the impact of humor based therapy doesn't stop at the door.
Humor For Hope primarily works in Chicago, Illinois but is currently building relationships to expand the program nationwide and globally. This interactive educational experience + therapy can be implemented in any school, hospital, refugee camp, nursing home, rehabilitation center, educational or therapeutic setting working alongside local improv comedians, medical professionals, families, and communities. In doing our own, quieter, deeper behind the scenes work —
That the only way to equality is through equity.
That we cannot have diversity and inclusion without equity and love.
We are working for collective liberation vs helping the disadvantaged.
We focus on dismantling structures vs treating symptoms.
We invest our energy into action vs talk and performance.
We don’t require the communities we work with to educate us.
We work to equalize and create space for deep healing.
We do what we do out of responsibility versus pats on the back,
performative allyship, or self-centering.
We choose not to be complicit in the continuation of
inequitable structures that benefit oppressors.
We believe in care over competition, centering community,
actively listening and that people know best what they need.
We strive to operate from a place of deep listening, humility
and to support sovereignty and autonomy in every way.
We believe that accountability is love, and we love each other enough
to want us to all do and be better.
